SOUTHPAW. If you haven't seen it, don't worry, I'm not going to do a big spoiler alert. However, I do reference a scene in the movie, so if you don't want to know anything at all, you might want to skip this post. As usual, I found a business lesson or two.
For one of the fights in the movie, Billy (Jake Gyllenhaal) is training with one of his coaches and the coach has a few wise words to share. Now, I'm not going to remember the lines from the movie exactly, but the take-away was that the match isn't won because someone comes in angry and fights, but rather through strategy and using your mind to accomplish the desired goal.
As a business person, we have to stay focused on what we want to accomplish and if we are operating from a point of anger, it will only make us blind to the problem and emotionally crippled.
ps, although I really don't like violent movies, and I must admit I had my eyes closed for a portion of the movie, I was appreciative of the story content and the life/business lessons I learned during the show.
