If you have never been to a neighborhood city planning meeting, it is an interesting process. As I sat through several presentations last night, I noticed many things about business, but the one thing that struck me the most was the way two different presenters with similar projects went about pitching their message. One spoke the language the panel wanted/needed to hear and was respectful and sensitive to the audience. They appeared to be authentic in making decisions about their project that would negatively impact their community. The other presenter came off as entitled and impatient. They spoke several untruths and made only an obligatory attempt at concealing their frustration at having to consider the negative impact their plan would have on their neighbor. You can imagine which group got their plan approved. 

Regardless if you pitching a new business, trying to get a plan approved or simply trying to get your kids to do something, think about how you are presenting and take into account the words that will convey your message with authenticity, consideration and respect.
