I had lunch with a few friends today, and one of the items I ordered was fried pickles with aoli.  After the bussers cleared the table of finished meals and empty dishes, there was still half an order left. As the waiter approached with the check, he noticed the remaining fried pickles and asked if I would like to have them taken off the bill since I had not eaten the entire order. I didn’t. The truth was I was just full, not unhappy. But I was super impressed. One that the waiter was empowered to offer me something if I was unhappy, and that he noticed. His noticing brought him a 30% tip. Extraordinary service rewarded.
