Red Rooster

While we were in NYC, we had the opportunity to visit the famous RED ROOSTER Restaurant. I was excited to go because I had recently read the book, “Yes, Chef,” by Marcus Samuelsson.

Marcus is an award-winning chef and cookbook author, and was the youngest chef to ever receive two three-star ratings from The New York Times while at Aquavit as Executive Chef. In 2010 Marcus was the winner of Top Chef Masters Season 2 and also served as the guest chef for the first State Dinner of the Obama administration.

Although the restaurant was great, that’s not what I’m going to write about. The book had some great business advice and it seems only fitting that I would share that information with the rest of y’all! Here are the top three points I took from the my read.

1. Take nothing personally and see opportunity in every moment. ( I think it is fair to say that far too often we think something is about us personally, but in reality, most people are concerned about themselves, not us. When something does happen, see the opportunity in what you can learn from that experience.)

2. Engage customer’s senses. Take them out from their day to day.

3. At every major turning point, there comes a point where you have to decide. Know what your bag is, or more importantly, your truth.
