JAN MCCARTHY ART
I like to view the abstract part of life through art.
Each piece that I paint is inspired by real life visuals, infused with multiple layers of varying materials to create texture and possibility. My signature style of intuitive painting includes abstracts, figure painting, and landscapes. I mostly use a color palate that excites the imagination, creating a luxurious blend of white and beige to present a calm escape and thoughtful reflection, or incorporate black and other dark meaningful colors to respect the elegance and mystery life has to offer. Occasionally I will pop out a bit of color in my paintings and sometimes challenge myself to go beyond my comfort zone and embrace many colors in all their glory. The art often tells the untold story of a single thought, simple in its first impression, yet complex when viewed in its entirety.

“Art Is…”
… open to interpretation.
I couldn’t have predicted that one day I would be making art, creating retreats. designing an interesting life, traveling all over the world (when covid isn’t a factor!) and hanging out with the best family and friends.
The other thing I couldn’t have predicted was a broken and I don’t mean from love.
Twenty four years ago I had really mild symptoms that made me think I had walking pneumonia. I reluctantly went the Dr. and only because i thought they would give me an antibiotic.
After many tests, they discovered I had a 95% closed left anterior descending artery. If I had waited any longer I would have probably been dead in a couple of days. I was only 43 years old. They put a stent in my artery and saved my life. Since then I’ve had 3 more big scares and needed a full scraping and 2 more stents. I’m doing fine and part of that reason is because I know what to look for now.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women. I want to help women be more aware of the dangers and the signs. I have created a collection of 28 pieces called “ART 4 the HEart” and it will go on sale FEB 1st. People on my mailing list (link in bio) will get first viewing and option to purchase. When you buy one of these pieces, you might just be helping to save a heart, including your own. I will be donating 25% of the proceeds to the Heart Aasociation. Each piece is mixed media on wood, 4” x 4”.

Vibrant pink, lucious green and just a touch of white for emphasis make this abstract piece stand out and capture our imagination as we look beyond the layers of paint to discover a flower maybe? or a heart or two? In the end, this art is a lot like heart disease which is often hidden with symptoms that are vague and abstract. Mixed media on canvas board, 14” x 18” unframed. 30% of proceeds for this piece sold in FEB 2026 go towards raising awareness of heart disease in women.
